Brent is a census-designated place (CDP) in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 22,257 at the 2000 census. It is a principal city of the Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent Metropolitan Statistical Area.[2]

Geography

Brent is located at 30°28′14″N 87°14′57″W / 30.47056°N 87.24917°W / 30.47056; -87.24917 (30.470496, -87.249127),[3] or three miles (5 km) northwest of Pensacola.[4] The elevation is 112 feet (34 m) above sea level.[5]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.5 square miles (27.2 km²), of which, 10.4 square miles (27.0 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.86%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 22,257 people, 7,008 households, and 4,800 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,132.4 people per square mile (823.1/km²). There were 7,796 housing units at an average density of 746.9/sq mi (288.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 59.87% White, 34.25% African American, 0.74% Native American, 2.28% Asian, 0.27% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 2.13% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.95% of the population.

There were 7,008 households out of which 32.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.7% were married couples living together, 22.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% were non-families. 25.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.12.
