Bromley is a city in Kenton County, Kentucky, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 838 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Bromley is located at 39°4′57″N 84°33′36″W / 39.0825°N 84.56°W / 39.0825; -84.56 (39.082610, -84.560088)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), of which, 0.3 square miles (0.8 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km2) of it (26.19%) is water.

History

The settlement of Bromley can be traced to the year 1784, when Prettyman Perry received a land grant from the United States Government of 2,000 acres (8.1 km2). Soon thereafter, the Perry family began constructing a home on the property. This home still stands today on Shelby Street.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky officially approved the incorporation of the City of Bromley on May 23, 1890.[1]

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 838 people, 342 households, and 221 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,702.8 people per square mile (1,043.7/km²). There were 362 housing units at an average density of 1,167.5/sq mi (450.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.57% White, 0.48% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.12% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.48% of the population.

There were 342 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.0% were married couples living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.07.
