Butler County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. It was organized in 1854 and named for General William O. Butler.[1] As of 2000, the population was 15,305. Its county seat is Allison.[2]



According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 582 square miles (1,507.4 km2), of which 580 square miles (1,502.2 km2) is land and 1 square mile (2.6 km2) (0.20%) is water.
