Chattahoochee is a city in Gadsden County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,287 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S Census estimates of 2005, the city had a population of 3,720. [1] It is part of the Tallahassee, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Chattahoochee is located at 30°41′50″N 84°50′25″W / 30.697257°N 84.840193°W / 30.697257; -84.840193.[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.6 km² (5.6 mi²). 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (3.37%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,287 people, 1,035 households, and 675 families residing in the city. The population density was 232.9/km² (602.7/mi²). There were 1,188 housing units at an average density of 84.2/km² (217.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 50.71% White, 46.73% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.94% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.67% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.56% of the population.

There were 1,035 households out of which 27.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.9% were married couples living together, 23.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.80.

In the city the population was spread out with 17.9% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 116.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 119.4 males.
