Chesterfield is a market town and a borough of Derbyshire, England. It lies north of the city of Derby, on a confluence of the rivers Rother and Hipper. Including Staveley, the population (2001) is 100,879, although that of the town itself is 70,260. It is Derbyshire's largest town (the larger Derby being classed as a city), although the county town of Derbyshire is Matlock in the Derbyshire Dales. Around 250,000 people live in the Chesterfield urban area including Dronfield, Bolsover, Staveley, Shirebrook and Clay Cross. It is located on the A61, 6 miles (9.7 km) from the M1[1] (via the A617 to J29 and A632 to J29A), and forms part of the Sheffield City Region.[2]
