Cranberry Isles is a town in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The population was 128 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 42.4 square miles (109.8 km²), of which, 3.2 square miles (8.2 km²) of it is land and 39.2 square miles (101.6 km²) of it (92.50%) is water.

The land area of the Town of Cranberry Isles is composed of five islands: Great Cranberry Island (with the postal designation Cranberry Isles, zip 04625), Little Cranberry Island (with the postal designation Islesford, zip 04646), Sutton Island, Bear Island, and Baker Island. Only the first two islands have post offices or year-round populations.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 816 people living year round in the Cranberry Isles. Great Cranberry Island is the largest settlement in the community, with 128 people in 60 households, and 31 families residing in the town. The population density of Great Cranberry Island was 40.3 people per square mile (15.6/km²). There were 344 housing units at an average density of 108.4/sq mi (41.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.44% White, and 1.56% from two or more races.
