Darmstadt is a small german heritage town in Scott Township, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, United States. It also extends slightly into Armstrong, Center and German townships. The population was 1,313 at the 2000 census. Darmstadt is just north of the core and is part of the Evansville Metropolitan Area.

Geography

Darmstadt is located at 38°5′28″N 87°34′34″W / 38.09111°N 87.57611°W / 38.09111; -87.57611 (38.091041, -87.576207)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.7 square miles (12.3 km²), of which, 4.7 square miles (12.2 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.42%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,313 people, 490 households, and 605 families residing in the town. The population density was 262.1 people per square mile (107.4/km²). There were 503 housing units at an average density of 106.6/sq mi (41.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.16% White, 0.23% African American, 0.15% Asian, and 0.46% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.08% of the population.

There were 490 households out of which 34.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.3% were married couples living together, 4.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.3% were non-families. 15.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 2.97.
