Fayette County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of 2000, the population was 21,804. Its county seat is La Grange[1]. Fayette is named for the Marquis de la Fayette, a French nobleman who became an American Revolutionary War hero. Fayette County is the location of the real Chicken Ranch, which was the basis of the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 960 square miles (2,486.4 km2), of which 950 square miles (2,460.5 km2) is land and 10 square miles (25.9 km2) (1.02%) is water.
