Greene County is a county located in Southwest Missouri. As of 2000, the population was 240,391. A 2008 estimate, however, showed the county's population to be 266,944 making it the fifth most populated county in Missouri. Its county seat is Springfield[1]. The county was organized in 1833 and is named after American Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene.

Greene County is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area.
