Gregory County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of 2000, the population was 4,792. Its county seat is Burke.[1]



According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,053 square miles (2,727.3 km2), of which 1,016 square miles (2,631.4 km2) is land and 38 square miles (98.4 km2) (3.56%) is water.


The county is divided into thirteen townships: Burke, Carlock, Dickens, Dixon, Edens, Ellston, Fairfax, Jones, Landing Creek, Pleasant Valley, Star Valley, and Whetstone; and four areas of unorganized territory: East Gregory, North Gregory, Southeast Gregory, and Spring Valley.
