Howard County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population was 6,567. Its county seat is St. Paul[1].

Howard County is part of the Grand Island, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area.

In the Nebraska license plate system, Howard County is represented by the prefix 49 (it had the forty-ninth-largest number of vehicles registered in the state when the license plate system was established in 1922).



According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 576 square miles (1,491.8 km2), of which 569 square miles (1,473.7 km2) is land and 6 square miles (15.5 km2) (1.09%) is water.
