Kadoka is a city in Jackson County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 706 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Jackson County[4].



Kadoka is located at 43°50′7″N 101°30′44″W / 43.83528°N 101.51222°W / 43.83528; -101.51222 (43.835290, -101.512333)[5].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km²), all of it land.

Kadoka has been assigned the ZIP code 57543 and the FIPS place code 33180.


As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 706 people, 293 households, and 172 families residing in the city. The population density was 305.0 people per square mile (118.0/km²). There were 356 housing units at an average density of 153.8/sq mi (59.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 83.99% White, 0.14% African American, 13.03% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 2.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.28% of the population.

There were 293 households out of which 29.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.0% were non-families. 35.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 3.11.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 21.4% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 22.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 86.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.6 males.
