Kuching (Chinese: 古晋) (pronounced /ˈkuːtʃɪŋ/, KOO-ching), officially the City of Kuching,[7] is the capital of the East Malaysian state of Sarawak. Being the most populous city in Sarawak, Kuching emerged as one of the most vibrant cities in the region, and it is the largest city on the island of Borneo, and the fourth largest city in Malaysia.[8][9]

Kuching is one of the two subsets of the Kuching Proper subdistrict, the other subset being part of the Padawan municipality. Kuching Proper is one of the three subdistricts in the Kuching District, which is one of the three districts in the Kuching Division.
