Logansport is a town in western De Soto Parish adjacent to the Sabine River in western Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,630 at the 2000 census. It is part of the ShreveportBossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area.



Logansport is located at 31°58′29″N 93°59′51″W / 31.97472°N 93.9975°W / 31.97472; -93.9975 (31.974785, -93.997471)[1]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.7 km²), of which, 3.2 square miles (8.3 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (4.45%) is water.

The Logansport riverfront is a welcoming entrance off U.S. Highway 84 into Louisiana from Texas. It has a terraced landscape, veteran's memorial, walking paths, gazebo, picnic tables, and a pavilion.


As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,630 people, 656 households, and 440 families residing in the town. The population density was 506.4 people per square mile (195.4/km²). There were 787 housing units at an average density of 244.5/sq mi (94.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 57.42% White, 41.17% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.10% of the population.
