Macon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois and is included in the Decatur, Illinois, Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2000, the population was 114,706. Its county seat is Decatur, Illinois[1].

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 585 square miles (1,516 km²), of which 581 square miles (1,504 km²) is land and 5 square miles (13 km²) (0.83%) is water.

Because of its location, Macon County is often referred to as "The Heart of Illinois"[citation needed]. However, it's not actually in the center of the State.
