Manistee Township is a civil township of Manistee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,764 at the 2000 census.




According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 48.2 square miles (124.9 km²), of which, 44.5 square miles (115.2 km²) of it is land and 3.7 square miles (9.7 km²) of it (7.76%) is water.


As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,764 people, 1,188 households, and 864 families residing in the township. The population density was 84.6 per square mile (32.7/km²). There were 1,391 housing units at an average density of 31.3/sq mi (12.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 84.62% White, 9.14% African American, 2.13% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.12% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.74% of the population.
