Mecklenburg County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The approximate population of Mecklenburg County is 890,515 people (as of 2008), making it the most populous county in North Carolina. Its county seat and largest city is Charlotte.



Mecklenburg County was formed in 1762 from the western part of Anson County. It was named for the German state of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
