Monroe County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. It was created on May 15, 1821. As of 2000, the population was 21,757. The 2007 Census Estimate showed a population of 25,145.[1]. The county seat is Forsyth.[2]

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,030 km² (398 mi²). 1,025 km² (396 mi²) of it is land and 6 km² (2 mi²) of it (0.55%) is water.
