Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding (NGSB) is the shipbuilding sector of the Northrop Grumman Corporation. The sector or division was created on 28 January 2008 by the merger of Northrop Grumman's two shipbuilding sectors, Northrop Grumman Ship Systems and Northrop Grumman Newport News.[1]

Mike Petters is currently the President of the entire shipbuilding sector (formerly president of the Newport News shipyard).[1]

NGSB is the sole designer, builder, and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in the United States. It is one of two nuclear-powered submarine builders. 70% of the current, active US Navy fleet has been built by NGSB's erstwhile units.

NGSB operates facilities in several key locations across the US:

NGSB's current order backlog amounts to USD 22.4 Billion.

Gerald R. Ford class aircraft carriers

NGSB is to build ten Gerald R. Ford class aircraft carriers for the US Navy. It is scheduled to deliver one carrier every five years starting in 2015.[2]

America class amphibious assault ship

The US Navy awarded NGSB a $2.4 billion fixed-price incentive contract for the detail design and construction of the America class amphibious assault ship. Work will be performed primarily at the company's shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., and ship delivery is scheduled for 2012.[3]
