Noxubee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2000, the population was 12,548. Its county seat is Macon[1]. Noxubee, derived from the Choctaw word nakshobi, is a Native American word meaning to stink. [2]



According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 700 square miles (1,813 km²), of which 695 square miles (1,800 km²) is land and 5 square miles (14 km²) (0.75%) is water.
