Wells County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population was 5,102. Its county seat is Fessenden.[1] The center of population of North Dakota is located in Wells County, in the city of Cathay [2].



According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,291 square miles (3,343 km²), of which, 1,271 square miles (3,293 km²) of it is land and 19 square miles (50 km²) of it (1.50%) is water.
