Woonsocket is a city in Sanborn County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 720 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Sanborn County[4]. Woonsocket is named after Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 720 people, 301 households, and 192 families residing in the city. The population density was 918.4 people per square mile (356.4/km2). There were 330 housing units at an average density of 420.9/sq mi (163.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.50% White, 0.42% Native American, 1.11% Asian, 0.42% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.39% of the population.

There were 301 households out of which 26.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% were non-families. 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.83.
