Cognition in Collectives Lab

We are a group of psychologists at Princeton University led by Dr. Alin Coman

OUR APPROACH

The Cognition in Collectives Lab investigates how cognition manifests in, and is influenced by, the social contexts in which it occurs. Using a social-interactionist approach, we investigate how processes carried out by the cognitive system impact outcomes that characterize communities of individuals: from small groups to larger social networks. We focus on understanding the formation of collective memories, the dynamics of collective beliefs, and the synchronization of collective emotions as psychologically grounded, interactively constructed, and dynamic phenomena.

Psychologically Grounded

Individual-level psychological phenomena with one person experiencing a stimulus.

Interactively Constructed

Dyadic interaction between two people experiencing a stimulus.

Dynamic Phenomena

Network of people having a series of interactions and experiencing a stimulus.
