My research is focused on understanding the cognitive constructs that serve as the underpinnings to simultaneous interpreting. Simultaneous interpreting is the process of translating messages between people and languages in real time for which there are no one-for-one correlations. I am taking an individual differences approach in order to assess aptitude for skill acquisition and expertise in signed and spoken language interpreting, including second language learning ability. Specifically, I am interested in the role of working memory, intelligence, and cognitive control in regard to this complex information processing and performance task.
