Welcome to the Human Working Memory Lab

Lab Summary

Our research is concerned with individual differences in working memory capacity, cognitive control, and general intelligence (g). An individual differences approach to cognitive abilities not only informs debates about why variation exists among individuals but also informs theory about the cognitive constructs themselves (Underwood, 1975). Thus, our work integrates two scientific disciplines within Psychology: the experimental and the differential (Cronbach, 1957). We also explore the neural bases of cognitive ability using neural imaging (fMRI).

More recently we have become interested in the role of emotion in cognition and are exploring the impact of individual differences in working memory and personality traits on the performance of complex cognitive tasks. More specifically, we are interested in situations in which cognitive and emotive traits interact to predict behavior.
