TITLE: 150 Years of Chinese students in America
 SPEAKER: Mr. CHU Tsu-kai (T. K. Chu)
LANGUAGE: English
TIME: 4:30 pm, March 8, Thursday
VENUE: McCosh 46 (Next to the University Chapel, entry 4 is the

ABSTRACT: http://www.princeton.edu/~acsspu/events/chu_abstract.htm

The lecture traces the history of Chinese students in America that
dates back to 1872, with the reflection of students today. The
Chinese students as cultural agency bring in the cultural encounter
between China and America. The lecture brings not only the complex
cultural experience of Chinese students, but also the issue of
cultural identity. Mr. Chu is retired from the Plasma Physics
Laboratory of Princeton University. He has recently completed
translating a book "Chinese Students Encourter America (Liu2 Xue2 Mei3
Guo2)" by QIAN Ning into English. It will be published by the
University of Washington Press this spring.

3. Upcoming International Festival

The International Center will launch the Annual International Festival
in the first week of April. Our association (ACSS) and the Chinese
Student Association (CSA) will jointly organize part of the event.

The ACSS will take part in introducing some unique Chinese cultural
heritage to visitors, which may take the form of artworks, traditional
attires and games etc. Volunteers are more than welcome. In
particular, we will need both male and female super-models to show
some traditional attires. Do not hesitate to contact the committee
members if you are interested in it. Other things can be imagined
include displaying Chinese collections, calligraphy and martial arts.
We have already had a volunteer to play Chinese music in the event and
we can certainly accept more.

Keep your eyes widely open. More details to come in the subsequent
Newsletters. We wish to see you in the event. The committee is open
to suggestions. Contact Xinping (xzhu@) for details.
