All of Aristophanes' Clouds will be read in Greek, with related texts read in English. Classes will include close translation and reports on special topics. Emphasis will be on combining an introduction to ancient comedy with attention to the literary texture of Aristophanes through detailed analysis of style, diction, and dramatic technique.

1. Reading Ancient Greek Texts: This is an up-to-date, scholarly and pretty funny translation, by a leading scholar of Aristophanes: Jeff Henderson.

2. LSJ (Middle) Via Tufts.
3. A most intriguing tool. An speedy (English) Concordance to Aristophanes. This could be an excellent tool if you're interested in something that has a proper name--e.g. the harmodius song.
