Princeton University Kokikai Aikido

Beginners are always welcome!
Join us for a class any time!

Try something different.  Aikido emphasizes relaxation over muscle, exerting the minimum effort to produce the maximum effect.  No experience is needed; everyone is welcome.  Bring comfortable clothes to workout and try Aikido for yourself.
Start any time during the semester, and practice as often as fits your schedule.  Classes meet in the Dillon Gym Martial Arts Room:  Monday 5:15-6:45, Wednesday 5:15-6:45, Thursday 8:30-10:00, Friday 5:30-7:00.

Beginners are always welcome, but now is a particularly good time to try Aikido, during our OPEN HOUSE period (new club members practice free for their first two weeks).  See you on the mat!

CLASSES:  Club classes meet year-round (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).  Thursday classes will resume on the 26th of September.  Thursday is a Physical Education session, which requires registration through Dillon Gym.

Regular PE registration is on the main floor of Dillon Gym:

        Tuesday 9/17 from 12:00-1:30pm and 5:00-6:00pm; and

        Wednesday 9/18 from 12:00-1:30pm.

Late registration is available until 9/27 in Room 3 of Dillon Gym, 258-3533.

FAQ:  If you're a beginner or are thinking about joining the Aikido club, many of your questions are probably answered here.

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that teaches effective self defense through harmonization with an opponent's attack.  We focus on developing inner calmness, self-awareness and ki to enable one to throw any opponent.

At the Princeton dojo, we practice Kokikai-ryu ("Kokikai style") Aikido, which was founded by Shuji Maruyama Sensei.

DEMONSTRATION:  Thank you to everyone who helped make our demonstration and open house on 9/13 such a success.  If you missed the demo, you are welcome to come see or try a class anytime.  Also, please join us for our next demonstration, which will be near the beginning of the spring semester.  We hold our classes and demos in the Dillon Gym Martial Arts Room (one flight of stairs down from the fitness center).  Each demo is followed by an (optional) free class:  if you would like to participate in class, wear comfortable workout clothes; covering your knees is best.
