BIBLIOGRAPHIC MANAGING SOFTWARE
NTTR Thursday afternoon session

-Old vs. new, aka notecards vs. EndNote

-What is this "BMS"?
          Specialized database for managing bibliographies

2 main functions:
    building/managing bibliographies
    notetaking
5 most common brands: EndNote, ProCite, Papyrus, Library Master, Reference Manager

-My experience with EndNote

-Why use a computer for your bibliography? Why not on paper or Access?
    Input: manually, cut&paste, importing directly

    Search & sort

Output: Word, WP, etc; bibliography or footnotes; choose style

Why not use EndNote? (paper or Access)
        too little to do; material too unlike a standard book;
        downloading not for all

-Let's try:
    some input:
        typing in

your advisor’s major works (see us for a serious talk if you don’t know this by heart backwards and forwards…)         cut & paste from online catalog on desktop, in Information Access folder, double click on TN3270, in catalog type "t bones of jade"         downloading                                 from Cornell cat. within EndNote,
                                from web-based Eureka database
editing reference types                        be careful ~ great way to turn your library into a big fat nightmare!     search & sort
output: only basic - simple export to Word
