Career-Networking Online Discussion Group
Our inaugural service is a TigerNet online discussion group: career-networking.
We invite alumni as well as members of the campus community to join in
a worldwide discussion of issues, questions, problems, and opportunities
concerning career and professional development.
How does the career-networking discussion group work?
With a very basic knowledge of how to send and receive email, Princetonians
subscribe free of charge to a TigerNet discussion group in the form of
a mailing list. Subscribers to the list exchange their questions and comments
via email. Your email message about career development issues goes to all
career-networking list subscribers and all messages to the list are delivered
to your emailbox. You don' t need to be a computer expert! Find everything
you need to know to join career-networking in TigerNet
Discussion Groups. Alumni who wish to subscribe to the career-networking
mailing list must be registered in the TigerNet
Directory.
If you've never subscribed to a mailing list before, please know you
are welcome to subscribe and just "listen in" on the discussion.
All messages to the list will go to you even if you don't participate.
Of course, we hope you'll join in the discussion when you're ready, comfortable
and have questions or comments for the group.
What are the topics for discussion?
Mailing lists are just conversations that occur online. So, the topics
of discussion are determined by the participants. Any questions and comments
on the subject of career development, of interest to the group, are encouraged.
For example: What's the current job market for economists in Chicago?
I'm thinking about a career change: anyone recently opened a bed and breakfast
in New England? My firm is looking for summer interns - any interest out
there? I'd like to work in new media. Any advice on how I might re-package
my skills?
Charlie Kohl '72 (ckohl@alumni.Princeton.EDU), and Marney Sigler '96 (mnsigler@alumni.Princeton.EDU), are the career-networking mailing list "caretakers."
They will be available to the discussion at hand, and can offer helpful
suggestions and advice.
How do I subscribe to the career-networking mailing list?
To subscribe, send an email message from the Internet account where
you would like to receive the mail. Address a message to:
listproc@lists.princeton.edu
The message should read
subscribe career-networking your name
For example, if your name is Jane Doe, you would type
subscribe career-networking jane doe
Include no other information in your message.
Email addresses of TigerNet Directory registrants and faculty, staff
and students from a Princeton.EDU domain will be added to the list. Alumni
must be TigerNet Directory registrants. (If you are an alumnus and have
not yet registered your email address in the TigerNet Directory, you may
do so here.)
You will receive a confirmation of your subscription as well as important
information on how to use the mailing list and commands you will need to
know to contact the list administrator. Please save this message for future
