Alex Levitov

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Politics at Princeton University.

My dissertation concerns the normative legitimacy of public institutions, both internally and with respect to outsiders. I argue that both aspects of a state's right to rule derive from its role in enabling the collective self-determination of its members.

More broadly, my research interests include modern social and political thought, theories of political obligation and authority, democratic theory, and just war and human rights.
