ITER Plasma Representation
Ash Patel
PPPL Engineering / ITER IO
This is a solid representation of the ITER Plasma. The rendering is done with CATIA (Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application) software. ITER, currently under construction in the south of France by a global collaboration, aims to demonstrate that fusion is an energy source of the future. ITER is based on the 'tokamak' concept of magnetic confinement, in which the plasma is contained in a doughnut-shaped vacuum vessel. The fuel - a mixture of deuterium and tritium, two isotopes of Hydrogen - is heated to temperatures in excess of 150 million°C, forming a hot plasma.

This model was originally created to help refine the ITER diagnostic models which reside in multiple equatorial ports around the vacuum vessel. The plasma visualization aided in the alignment of various diagnostic experiments.
