Maxwell Anderson is currently engaged in research on the tensions between artistic independence and public service in art museums. He is interested in recent changes in law affecting the ownership of collections they care for; commercially-minded compromises in artistic independence, engendered by the growing demand for earned and contributed income, that are testing the limits of their non-profit status; and "mission creep" caused by differing metrics of success from vocal stakeholders ranging from government officials to trustees, visitors, staff and scholars. |
