Population: Artists as defined by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Musicians, and performing and visual artists were considered 'professionals' if they earned more than 50 percent of their living through art-related activities.

Summary: The 'Artists' Enquete' was designed to cover a wide field of vocational and social problems of the cultural professions in Germany. The Enquete was a multistage research project, based mainly on personal interviews with over 100 questions asked during interviews lasting about 1.5 hours.
