| Artists' Employment Status |
About this Quick Fact
Sources of Data
There are two widely used sources of data on artists' employment status
in the United States -- the decennial U.S. Census and the Current Population
Survey (CPS), a monthly survey of approximately 50,000 U.S. households conducted
by the US Bureau of the Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The most recent decennial Census for which occupational data are available
is 1990. Detailed occupational data from the 2000 Census will be available
sometime in 2003. Therefore, the most recent available estimates of the
size of the artist population come from the Current Population Survey.
