Thierry Rigogne is currently finishing a dissertation on the world of the book trade in eighteenth-century France. His research draws upon large surveys conducted by the royal administration in an effort to document the situation of booksellers, printers, and publishers. Mr. Rigogne is particularly interested in the practices of the nascent bureaucracy as it dealt with culture, struggling to develop and enforce cultural policies, while policing culture. This dissertation is part of a larger project on the history of communication in Old Régime France, which focuses on the connections between culture, politics, commerce, and communication.
