Steven Holochwost will conduct a study addressing the role of cultural policy in the field of new music composition. The project will attempt to assess whether or not there is a need for increased policy involvement to aid in the dissemination of contemporary classical music, in order to maintain the vitality of the discipline. Towards this end, the health and prevalence of major outlets for new music will be evaluated, including concert performance, recordings, radio broadcast, and publishing. In addition, alternative, grassroots institutions in these areas will be profiled as possible exemplars for future policy initiatives.
