Meredith TenHoor

School of Architecture

Meredith TenHoor's research examines plans for a "Museum of Gastronomy" that was to be built in the Parisian suburb of Rungis after Paris's beloved central food market, Les Halles, was demolished and relocated to this suburb in 1969. Contrasting plans for this museum (which was never built) with those for the cultural center at the Centre Pompidou built adjacent to Les Halles, Tenhoor looks at various cultural strategies which were envisioned to compensate for this major urban transformation. She explores the successes and failures of past cultural policy experiments at Les Halles and Rungis in order to illuminate some of the complex history of cultural programming concerning everyday life in France.
