Yue Zhang is currently working on a project to investigate and compare preservation policies in Beijing, Paris, and Chicago. Drawing on political science, Zhang seeks to demonstrate how political and socioeconomic factors influence a city’s preservation policy in the process of modernization, thus revealing the inherent tensions of modernity. Zhang has abiding research interests in the tension and interaction between traditional culture and modernization.
