The Effect of Media Coverage on Citizen Attributions of Bureaucratic Control: A Survey Experiment

How does media coverage of government agencies affect how citizens assign responsibility for bureaucratic policymaking? Using a survey experiment, I ask respondents to attribute responsibility for a Federal Trade Commission antitrust investigation to the president, Congress, or the Commission. I manipulate the content of the news article respondents read, with some receiving information that the FTC is an independent, presidentially-insulated commission, others that the president appointed the FTC commissioners, and others both cues.
