OIT Academic Services supports the University community in the use of information technology in teaching, learning and research. Give us a call if you want to explore how technology can meet your needs.

Summary of Services

  • Consulting, Design, and Training
    Our staff will work with you to enhance your teaching, research, and scholarship — from large collaborative projects resulting in the creation of courseware, to one-on-one consulting where we help you solve your problems and learn to use appropriate technology at the same time. We also offer lectures and workshops to help you acquire needed software skills.
  • Film, Video, and Digital Media
    Academic Services will facilitate your use of film and video in the classroom and on the Web, and help you produce your own video materials. We can also help you digitize your media (e.g., text, images, audio, and video) and adapt them for use in the classroom via the Web.
  • Hardware and Software
    We offer a comprehensive collection of hardware and software related to teaching, research, and digital media. You can access many of our resources through the campus network or Web. We also offer physical access to high-end computing workstations at our Language Resource Center and New Media Center.
  • Research
    Academic Services is comitted to a expanding our services designed especially for faculty engaged in research. If you have been wondering about electronic texts, shared Unix software, need some supercomputing cycles for your project, or want to talk to someone about Humanities Computing, we've got you covered.
  • Teaching and Classroom Support
    Academic Services provides consulting and production services for faculty interested in using technology to enhance their teaching. We also provide software that lets you manage your teaching resources via the Web. We offer resources and support for language instruction and learning at our Language Resource Center and through the Web. Many of our classrooms are equipped with audio, video, and display technology — including laptop data projection, VHS/DVD projection, slide and overhead projection, audio cassette and CD playback.

Academic Services Groups

  • Broadcast Center (BC)
    The Broadcast Center will provide video production for major events on campus like Public Lectures, Opening Exercises and Commencement. Lecture recordings, podcasts and rich media content will be managed by the BC.
  • Computational Science and Engineering Support (CSES)
    CSES supports the University's research and academic activities by providing services for High Performance Computing, programming, and third-party software.
  • Educational and Outreach Services (EOS)
    Educational and Outreach Services aims to provide training to faculty, students and staff in the use of course-related software, and to help the campus community become more familiar and comfortable with the use of academic and instructional technology at Princeton.
  • Educational Technologies Center (ETC)
    ETC consults with Princeton faculty to create digital visualization and teaching tools for the classroom. We also administer the campus-wide learning management system (currently Blackboard) and the Almagest multimedia database.
  • Humanities Resource Center (HRC)
    The HRC provides resources and facilities to support the study of foreign languages, literatures, and cultures. We support independent language study with a large selection of instructional materials and the appropriate viewing technology. The LRC also assists Princeton University faculty in incorporating video in instruction.
  • Media Services
    Media Services provides audio-visual support for Princeton classes and events.
  • New Media Center (NMC)
    The NMC provides a multimedia laboratory for the Princeton academic community to access cutting edge digital media technologies and receive instruction in their use.
