Third International Workshop on Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows

Third International Workshop on Wall-Bounded Turbulent Flows

Chicago, Illinois, 17-19 November, 2005

58th Annual Meeting of the APS/DFD Home Page        Hilton/Chicago Information

News October 17, 2005

The Final Program is now available

Summary
Interactions amongst several members of our group over the last few years motivated us to meet for workshops at Princeton University in October of 2003 (Workshop 1), and The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) Trieste, Italy, in November of 2004 (Workshop 2).

The Third Workshop will be held in Chicago, Illinois, 17-19 November, 2005. The Final Program is now available.

If you have received an invitation to attend, please register HERE

The focus of the workshop will be discussion and positive participation from all delegates. The workshop aims to lead to a better understanding of high Reynolds number wall bounded flows, and a clearer sense of where, as a community, our future efforts should lie.

We will have four sessions, roughly covering the topics of pipe flows (including the proposed CICLoPE project), roughness, organized motions and scaling issues. Following the spirit of the previous two workshops in Princeton and Trieste, some things we would like to emphasize are:

  • This is a workshop, not a symposium.
  • More time will be devoted to discussion than presentations, and the two need not be sequential.
  • Short prepared comments are encouraged, but please let the speaker know ahead of time if possible.
  • Preparing summaries of the session will be the responsibility of the Chair and Co-Chair.
  • You are encouraged to organize smaller discussion groups during coffee breaks, lunch, or after hours.
  • You are especially encouraged to explore future cooperative ventures.
  • More details of the workshop will follow as they are finalized. Both LCD (computer) and overhead projectors will be provided. A registration form, with details for payment, is also attached. We have kept the registration fee to a minimum. The $120 fee covers the cost of the venue (and associated rentals), welcome reception (Nov. 16), coffee breaks and the group dinner on Thursday (Nov. 17). People will be on their own to enjoy the downtown Chicago area during lunch and for Friday dinner. Please email Ivan Marusic (marusic@aem.umn.edu) with any changes to talk titles, authorship etc, or for any other information.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Chicago, with best regards from the Organizing Committee.
