Hello world! I'm Alice. I am a junior at Princeton University, seeking a Bachelor's of Science and Engineering in Computer Science.

I work for the Princeton Student Design Agency as Web Manager and a Graphic Designer for both print and web. I also occasionally work as a freelance designer.

Anyway, I now focus mostly on immersing myself fully in comp sci by doing things like hackathons and my homework since I'm so psyched to have found a major I love. This means lots of time studying and, unfortunately, not as many new designs. I still get to work on fun projects like the ones below though! I'm currently working on revamping this website, so I'm sorry it's not that cool yet.

If you're a potential employer, awesome! You might want to download my resume or check out my CS projects below:

This Week's Menus
My university's existing system for viewing dining hall menus is kind of annoying to navigate, and I believe in maximizing my gastronomical utility, so I decided to make a better one. A tool that I would use.
I did this while procrastinating from my homework in February/March 2012. I'd like to add some more functionality still and make it prettier, but I'm glad to have it online so my fellow students and I don't have to suffer the pain of a much worse system.
I used PHP, XHTML, CSS, and a bit of Javascript/JQuery.
Choosine
A restaurant voting web app that helps student leaders and birthday party organizers to select a nearby eatery that appeals to all their invitees' tastes.
This was a team project for a week long hackathon in January 2012, HackPrinceton StartWeek, done in conjunction with Candy Button '13, Kanika Pa '13, Abbi Ward '14, and Angela Dai '13. It is mostly functional but still a little buggy while we continue to work on it.
I designed the interface, coded up the front end, and programmed some of the integration of the interface with the business logic. We used PHP, MySQL, XHTML, CSS3, JQuery, and Java.
SOC/COS 409 Syllabus
This isn't really a CS project. I just decided to put the syllabus for one of my classes online one morning so that fellow students could download our reading from the ACM Digital Library more easily. Why should all of us search for the same thing when one person could do it and the rest just follow links?
Web Design Workshop
On March 10, 2012, I taught a web design workshop in my role as web manager of the Student Design Agency. When coming up with the material, I knew that I wanted to present in the browser so that I could control the experience better and transition more easily into demos. I built a very simple slide-show with Javascript in other to do so.

Final Project for Computer Vision:
an exploration of some approaches to OCR of Chinese characters
A research paper written as part of my final project for COS 429: Computer Vision. Morgan Ong '12, Rafael Grinberg '12, and I implemented several techniques for Chinese OCR based on our research on prior work in the field. We then wrote this report on our findings.
The actual code was implemented in MATLAB. I worked on research of previous methods, the writeup, generating a corpus of Chinese characters in a variety of fonts (using a Java program), and implementing a method that combined segmentation and Gabor-filtering at four different orientations.
DUMA Website
DUMA is a startup headed by Christine Blauvelt '12 and Arielle Sandor '12 which seeks to connect employers and employees in Kenya's informal work sector through existing social networks by text message, given the understanding that employers are more willing to trust people they already know and that most Kenyans have access to mobile phones but internet access is limited.
I designed and coded this interface in < 24 hours of solitary hacking in late 2011 for Random Hacks of Kindness, but did not have time to hook up any of the forms with a database or to fill out most of the pages so it mostly doesn't work, but it does look alright!
I used HTML5 and CSS3.
