Concept Maps
Obviously this site is under construction. We are still trying to figure out how to deliver materials and then to explain what we deliver. The "Concept Map" - this name is by no means set - is an attempt to put a time and space dimension into one graphical output.
Japanese school children have textbooks based on this idea. The x and y axis represent time and place. The colors indicate - in our case - dynasties following the Prophet.
The next development steps are to have a "geographical map" of the holdings of a dynasty load when you click on its color field and a text description when you click on its name. This has been implemented on the "700" C-map with the First Four Caliphs and the Umayyads. We are also flirting with making the sliding "date line" transmute or carry various bands.
The development team is:
Prof. Jerome W. Clinton, Department of Near East Studies, Princeton University.
Dr. Peter Batke, CIT, Princeton, HTML development.
Dr. Denise Norby El-Soufi, Princeton, "C-maps" development.
