04/08/07 | Culture, Emotion, and Bioethics The Bioethics Forum will be hosting another dinner discussion TOMORROW, Monday April 9th, with Professor Jon Haidt, a visiting professor from the University of Virginia's Department of Psychology. Professor Haidt specializes in the study of morality and emotion, and how they vary across cultures. Tomorrow he will be addressing how gut feelings and intuitions drive our thoughts about bioethics. Mehek will again be served. Prof. Jon Haidt, "Culture, Emotion, and Bioethics" Frist 307 6pm. 03/30/07 | Thomson and Abortion This coming Monday, we will be hosting a lecture and dinner with Dr. James Mahon, a visiting Professor of Philosophy from Washington and Lee University, discussing the ethics of abortion. Prof. Mahon, a graduate of the University of Cambridge (M.Phil) and Duke University (Ph.D.), is a specialist in normative ethics (especially Kantian ethics) and early modern philosophy. We will be discussing key issues addressed in the Judith Thomson's paper "A Defense of Abortion," which is posted online here. Questions Prof. Mahon intends to address include:
