Butler Committee Meeting Minutes
April 3, 2007
Submitted by Jane Phillips (Secretary)
Committee members present: David Inglis (Community Room Coordinator), Juan Melli (Webmaster), Laura Soltesz (Social Chair), Shannon Hughes (Chair), Nicole Jui (Garden Co-Coordinator), Kelly Krantz (Treasurer), Patrick Ross (Bugle Editor), Agatha Lenartowicz (Garden Co-Coordinator), Rodrigo Cassasus (Dolly).
Community members present: Tara Kitley.
Meeting called to order at 9:35 pm.
Laura Soltesz (Social Chair): Cinco
de Mayo should not be held on the Saturday, as the GC is having a big event
that day. Kelly suggested the
previous Thursday, May 3, for the event at Butler. Has been a success in the past after the actual date. It was decided that the event would be
moved (so as not to interfere with exams) to May 24 and would be called
something other than Cinco de Mayo.
Shannon Hughes: Resident asked about doggy bag dispensers; they are all empty. Tara Kitley will try to set up a schedule to have them refilled regularly. Also, residents can call 8-8000 or email Dwight when bags are out.
Shannon mentioned that mail is misdelivered frequently in Butler. Residents would have to talk directly with the post office. Putting names on mailbox does not seem to help. It was decided that it is a matter for the post office.
Butler survey: Shannon would like a survey drafted, Juan will follow up. Juan will email committee members a copy of last yearŐs survey, and members will edit as they see fit.
Agata and Nicole (Garden): Garden is ready, and was plowed today. Gardener get-together happened a couple weeks ago with 19 residents in attendance. There was a question about whether all the garden checks were cleared, as one gardener wants to get out of her plot. Kelly will follow up. They are thinking of having another get-together in May for a barbecue of gardeners. Kelly says that the garden account will have $1011 after all checks are deposited, but Princeton account only has $78 at this point, so we need money from the GSG. Kelly will follow up with Dante to get money from the GSG for the April 24 event.
Patrick Ross (Bugle): Bugle will go out in the end of this month. Patrick will email it to members of the committee before it goes out so we can edit it if necessary. He will put in an insert about recycling. Will also put in a reminder about the Pet Registry. Jane will follow up with Patrick to make sure that petsitting co-op still exists.
David (Community Room): Cabinet is fixed. Also, the Community Room will be getting another bookcase soon.
Juan Melli (Webmaster): Updated shuttle links. He will send out old survey to committee.
Rodrigo (Dolly): Email needs to be changed in Bugle. Also, 48 hours notice is now needed to rent the Dolly.
Tara Kitley: Shed in Halsey Court will be moved by the end of April. 411A, B, C will always be used as storage rather than living space. New shuttle stop could possibly be in front of those units.
Rodrigo asked where the clothing donation box near the dumpsters went. No one had an answer, but Tara will try to follow up.
Tara is following up with trying to find a rack for the extra chairs in the community room.
Tara mentioned to remind dog owners to remove stakes for dog runs, also remove childrenŐs toys for grass mowing, which will be on Tuesdays in the spring and summer. The same company will be used for mowing this year as last year, but Facilites has been informed of issues in the past (damage to personal property, not completely mowing).
Laundry: should be two triple-loading washers that are working.
Tara asked about toys in Community Room – do toys from outside come in often? The concern is that toys might block exits. Maybe one large toy should be thrown out. David will follow up.
Tara brought a first aid kit. David will follow up with Facilities to mount it in the Community Room.
Laura (Social): Will stick with Mexican food and margaritas for the May 24 event, even though it is not near May 5. Should spend about $500 until we find out how much we would be getting from the GSG. If GSG gives more money, budget could be increased. Committee agrees that we should try to limit money taken from the garden account. Event will be held from 6-8pm.
There are apparently no smoke detectors in the laundry room or community room in Butler. Tara will follow up.
Meeting adjourned at 10:10pm.
