Minutes for Butler Committee Meeting, January 9, 2007

Meeting called to order at 9:38

Committee Business:

New Garden Coordinator –Nicole Jui

Agatha will be graduating shortly and a new garden coordinator is needed as the new plots are assinged.  Nicole Jui was selected for that position.

Committee Reports:

Tara-

Tara will be holding a meeting with the housing office.  Among the issues to discuss is the fact that on any given day, several washers and dryers are out of service.

Also, there will be a Kids Valentine's Activity on February 11 in the Community Room.

Laura (Social Chair)-

This year we will be celebrating the Chinese New year again.  The celebration is tentatively set for February 15.

Also, we are planning on adding at least one minor activity, thought it will probably be added during the summer to fill the large gap in activities.

Concern was voiced that not enough mingling happens at these activities.  One possible solution was to have drinks and hors d'oeuvres served about a half hour before the meal is available.

David will find out what drinks are appropriate for the Chinese New Year celebration

More money may be available from the GSG for monthly activies.

Dante (GSG)-

Housing director will be coming next month to discuss the graduate draw, long term improvement of housing, and any other issues.

Jeff (Housing)-

Nothing to report

Shannon (Garden)-

Composters are getting used.  It was suggested that we supply instructions on how to properly use them, particuarly adding dry compost

Garden equipment was packed away for the winter.

Starting the sign-up process for the next year (next week)

Currently planning on plowing the garden.

Patrick (Bugle)-

A bugle issue is planned for next week.

Issues to raise:  Yoga info, Wireless, Gardening

Kelly (Treasurer)-

Bugle costs are rising.  We need to investigate why.

We should have about $1000 excess after Chinese New Year.

David (Community Room)-

Online calendar is updated.

Some DCE students did not receive stickers for the ID cards.  Everyone should check to make sure that their cards are current.

Joshua (Chair)-

Joshua will be graduating this year and the committee will need to select a replacement chair.
