Butler Committee Meeting Minutes 05-04-2009

Committee Members present: David Jorgensen (Butler Chair), Dante Ricci (External Relations Rep), Anna Frost (dolly/Butler life coordinator), Nicole Jui (gardening co-coordinator), Tao Long (gardening co-coordinator), Ed Matteo (Treasurer), Rachel Galvin (Social Chair)

Community members present: Jeff Dwoskin, Laura Nielsen, Olivia Martel


Meeting called to order at 9:08pm.

David began the meeting with reports from committee members.

Ed (treasurer)-  Budget for summer activity is $800. What do we want to spend the rest of the budget on - items for the community room: CD player, board games, serving bowls/spoons. $300 surplus money to spend on needed things.

Olivia- Porches: we are not sure if they will continue fixing it. Dumpsters are being worked on as far as holes. Bench work order is in to be moved. Butler Community Room Kitchen reported as messy and being worked on. Shrub maintenance can't be staffed to be done more than one time a year. Signage for one way signs around Halsey ct will be worked on soon. Speed limit sign by Sycamore is knocked down. Blue light phone conversation is still in progress. Basket ball court will not be enlarged. Announcement board will/should be moved when the bench is moved.


Bo (webmaster)
- absent - committee history page is almost done. Web page about recycling info is up.

Nicole Jui, Tao Long (gardening co-coordinators)- kick off party in March. Garden is going well. Composter is full so using other half. All ready compost was used. Last year grounds took weeds away. They would like grounds to take them away again. Talk to David Wagenblast who is the head of the greenhouse.

Anna (Butler Life coordinator)- Apply for Meadows funds from the sustainability office. June 3rd the undergrad students sell. Bugle needs to be ready by July 1 to be given to housing. Anna try to find link to childcare in the old bugle.

Bronwyn (Community Room)- absent

Rachel (Social chair)- The Salsa Activity this week went well. They spent $240.  The Summer Activity cannot be on a Thursday in May. New date - Thursday, June 4th - Olivia can be there to supervise for the alcohol. Dante will stand in for Rachel at the event. Activities - tug of war, water balloon toss, potato sack races, Frisbee. Olivia says we don't need to ask for money from the events board, because we have extra money already in the budget that can be used for the event.
Yard sale - idea of one in June and September. Yard Sale date June 20th. 10a-2p. Advertise to residents 1 1/2 months in advance.


Dante (external relations)- Nobody reported having issues with the housing draw. Notices for inspection were given to residents even though they were retaining their units. - Dumpster issues (handled by Matt Ferry): non residents are dumping trash outside and inside the dumpsters. Want to change locks over the summer. - Outdoor lampposts in Halsey Ct. have been out, but currently it is working.


By-laws: Changed by-laws purpose and wording from Butler to Butler/Stanworth. Changed the Butler Life Coordinator to Community Life Coordinator. Changed a typo in the election process on page 11. Tonight committee will decide to submit these bylaw changes and if passed will be voted on to pass by the committee and community next month. 7 of 7 committee members voted to submit the bylaws for a vote next month.
