  • Dogs require licenses

New Jersey State law mandates that all dogs six months of age or older be licensed.

The fee for licensing is $8.20 for a spayed/neutered dog and $11.20 for a non-spayed/neutered dog.

Licenses should be obtained from the Township Clerk. More information is available at the Princeton Township Clerk website.

  • Clean up after your pet.

Please be aware that our municipality has enacted "POOPER-SCOOPER" legislation. To avoid embarrassment and possible fines, Please be sure to clean up after your dog.

Invest in a shovel, or a trowel, or plastic baggies and remember that your neighbors are not interested in canine fertilizer. There are plenty of dumpsters around, so you don't have to carry it very far. In addition, the Housing Department has very kindly put up "dog pots" all over the Butler complex. Please use them.

  • When outdoors, leash dogs at all times.

Princeton law says that dogs must be on leashes. New Jersey law mandates the leash must be no longer than 8 feet long, and the dog must be under your control at all times.

  • Be considerate!

Many of your neighbors may have a fear or dislike of dogs. Your rights and your dog's rights end at your neighbor's personal space, so keep your dog on a short enough leash or run that it cannot rush, attack, panic, nip at, or in some other way harm Butler residents.
