Latino Coalition Report is Complete -
See the Report
As many of you already know,
the Latino Coalition Report, produced through a year-long
effort last year from many students in CAUSA, Accion,
Caucus, and LGSA and the help of students writing over the
summer, led us to a finalized report with recommendations to
the University on the Status of Latino/a Students at
Princeton University . See attached for an electronic
copy of the report. Your Caucus leaders wish to share this
report with you so that we can all become aware of the
issues we are addressing as a Latino community. In the next
few weeks, students will meet with alumni, faculty, and
staff in focus groups to build up support for the
recommendations. After fall break, the Coalition will have
a large UMBRELLA meeting where everyone supporting the
report (from faculty, alumni, staff, student groups,
students, etc) will come together to review our progress and
think about ways to move forward in implementing the
recommendations.We
need dedicated people to participate in coordinating
the events and getting the word out.

Student Initiated Seminar: La Nueva Latina
Description/Objectives:
This course is about modern conceptions of
Latina women in the
United States. We will
explore this topic using a variety of resources including
feminist theory, academic writing, literature and film. What
is la nueva
Latina
? Where do Latinas fit into the cannon of feminist theory?
How have stereotypes emerged to characterize Latinas as
sassy, sensual etc. and how true are these stereotypes? How
do Latino males respond to Latinas? What is machismo and how
has its legacy affected gender conceptions within the
Latina/o community? How are Latinas subjugated/empowered by
popular media representations? This course will encourage
participants to tackle these and other important questions
at the heart of
Latina
identity formation in our society.
